Morning Brothers and Sisters,
Thank you for your prayers. We have many things to share since our last news letter but will keep it brief. Last time we notified you that we were on our way to Varanasi, the most “holy” city of India.
When we arrived 2 am at the station, 10 km from Varanasi, we were totally shocked at the conditions we found. Hundreds of people sleeping on the floor, everywhere. The smell was terrible but even worse, nobody used toilets… they used the pillars. Brown heaps of human dung was around every pillar. We had to be careful not to step on the people. The next morning we went to the river and were even more shocked. Thousands of people were washing themselves, drinking, washing clothes and worshiping in the water. Dead animals were drifting next to them and water buffalos were lying in the river. Even worse is that people who are not cremated get a stone tied around their feet and then they drop the bodies in the water right there where they wash and drink.
This river has the most dangerous water in the world. 30 sewage pipes run into this river and according to tests if 500 of a certain strain of bacteria is in 100ml of water, then it is not safe to swim in. That river has 1.5 million per 100ml!
We got in trouble with a angry crowd when we took pictures of a cremation next to the river but with God’s grace and protection, we walked right through them. We will rather say nothing about the rats and cockroaches….
We had wonderful opportunities of sharing the gospel with locals as well as many tourists who are there seeking while we were in Varinasi. Some were there seeking but were drawn to Islam, others to Buddhism but most towards Hinduism.
We left India for a while and went to Katmandu, Nepal. Still spiritually in terrible darkness and dirty, but wow, 100 million times better than India. This place is such a tourist madhouse but it was awesome to see the Lord working with Divine appointments. People gave their lives to Jesus and in one occasion it was a 30 year old woman from Pretoria, SA.
We felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to go on an outreach into the mountains. This was extremely hard work as we were carrying about 15 kg bags each. We were exposed to rough and dangerous conditions like, non-stop rain for 3 days while walking or climbing, warm and freezing weather and even snow, high altitude, cliffs and so on but He always protected us.
Some times it was a struggle to get accommodation and once had to sleep in a tent in 0 decrees outside but the Lord always looked after us. We had hundreds of tracts in the Nepal language and handed them out in villages, to workers in the farms etc. Even in the mountains were opportunities to share the Gospel with tourists and some locals who could understand English. We had the privilege of leading some to Christ. The Lord opened a door one day to visit a orphanage and could share the Gospel with the teachers.
The Lord truly saved my life when I slipped and was busy falling over a high cliff when Jono pulled me back. He was always ahead of me but this particular time, right behind me. All glory to our Savior.
We found that many of the youth and young adults between the Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims are very open to the truth. Many say they don’t want religion but truth and reality.
We are now on our way to Tibet but will first have to go through Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia by bus. It does not seem possible to be back in South Africa for Christmas season but would rather be in His will than be anywhere else. We truly had some great times spiritually in India and Nepal and thank the Lord for answering our as well as your prayers regarding Divine appointments and souls.
Please pray for more Divine appointments and where ever we can be a blessing.
We desire to fulfill the call of Mark 16:15 to “Go onto the entire world and preach the Gospel” and we also desire for you to fulfill that call as well. Your donation will aid us as we preach the Gospel in remote and unreached areas, impact others who will in turn impact others who will impact all generations worldwide with the truth and power of the Gospel. All gifts, great or small, will be appreciated.
